Cancer Support Community Rochester 3/31/24

Chuck Kelley interviewed Jim Love, the CEO of Cancer Support Community Rochester.
-Jim talked about how March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
-They are creating awareness on the importance of colorectal cancer screening through outreach efforts, especially in communities of color by providing screening information, education, and resources.
-Jim talked about the importance of screening and how it can find colorectal cancer at an early stage when treatment works best
-He said that Cancer Support Community offers free colorectal cancer rapid screening kits that are noninvasive, easy to use and provide results within 5 minutes.
-Jim talked about how these kits have a very important impact on communities of color.
-He explained that men and women in communities of color have very high rates of death with cancer and many times it could be treated if caught earlier.
-Cancer Support Community has a goal of lowering the number of stage 3 and 4 colon cancer diagnosis through early cancer screenings, self-
patient advocacy and decreasing cultural fears of healthcare.
