Ed Smith interviewed Christina Thompson, the Executive Director and Meridith Utman, Director of Special Events, at the Breast Cancer Coalition.
-Christina talked about the board doing a lengthy search for a new director after the former director retired.
-The board selected Christina, who was previously in charge of programming at the coalition.
-Christina talked about how she is focused on meeting with people in the organization and out in the community.
-She also talked about her personal experience with cancer and how she went to BCCR for help before she started to work for them.
-Christina gave an update on the social programs and a variety of support programs they are currently offering, a mix of in person and online.
-She talked about the gynecology services they offer as well.
-She said that the organization helps people with cancer connect with other cancer patients and they try to connect them to resources in the community.
-Christina said they will continue to survey the community and see what other new programs people are looking for before they decide to grow.
-They are now serving 27 counties in New York State.
-All of the services are offered at no cost and they are able to do that by the generous support of the community, both individuals and businesses supporting them.
-Meridith gave a preview of the upcoming Pink and Teal Challenge Walk and Run on May 11th.
-The event is going to be in person and virtual this year.
-Meridith encouraged people to become Peer to Peer heros, that is when you sign up for the challenge and then raise money.
-They are encouraging people to be very creative with costumes and fun clothing as a way to create excitement and raise more money.
-Meridth said they are always looking for volunteers for the Pink and Teal Challenge and other events they have planned for later this year.
-Christina highlighted the fact they are a local organization, all of the money raised will stay local and allow them to continue to provide services at no costs.
