Fairport Perinton Partnership and Merchants Association 5/26/24

Ed Smith spoke with Nancy Ragues, the Executive Director of the Fairport Perinton Partnership and Tim Forester Committee Member from the Fairport Merchants Association.
-Nancy explained what the Fairport Perinton Partnership is and how it started
-Nancy provided the history of Fairport Canal Days, why it was started and how it was a collaboration between various businesses
-Nancy and Tim talked about the partnership between the Merchants Association and the Fairport Perinton Partnership and how they work together on Fairport Canal Days
-They described what the festival will offer this year from art, food, music and family activities.
-Tim talked about how they try to incorporate student musicians at the festival from various schools in the area.
-He also described the collaboration with the Eastman School of Music, as this is one of their community outreach events.
-Nancy talked about the Canal Days poster contest and this year’s winner is a Fairport High School Art Teacher. The art teacher is also working on a special project to get some of her students to put their art on main street in Fairport.
-Nancy and Tim encourage people to buy tickets for the Duck Race, proceeds support local art programs
-Nancy said they are still looking for a few volunteers
-Tim said that proceeds from Canal Days allow the Fairport Merchants Association to support various local nonprofits, school programs and other needs in the community.
