We’re kicking off a mini theme week all about Thanksgiving Dinner! We’re starting with the star of the show – the turkey! An estimated 46 million turkeys are eaten each year for Thanksgiving. However, it’s very unlikely that it was part of the first Thanksgiving in 1621. According to a written account of the event by colonist Edward Winslow, the pilgrims and Native Americans feasted on venison, fish, shellfish, corn, and other vegetables. “Wild Fowl” may have also been served, but historians think it was likely seasonal waterfowl like duck or geese. So how did turkey become a Thanksgiving staple? Find out in the audio below!
