February 21, 2025 – Theme Week Day 5

We’re wrapping up our theme week on Vice Presidents with John Nance Garner, who was VP under President Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1933-1941. Nance also served as a representative from Texas (where he earned his nickname, Cactus Jack), and is one of only 2 politicians to serve as presiding officers of both chambers of Congress, as speaker of the house and Vice President. He’s also our longest-lived Vice President, dying just 15 days before his 99th birthday in 1967, Learn more in the audio below.
