Fairport Perinton Partnership 12/31/23

Ed Smith interviewed Ciaran Hanna, the Town of Perinton Supervisor and Nancy Ragues, the Director of the Fairport Perinton Partnership.
-Nancy explained the mission of the Fairport Perinton Partnership
-She talked about how they are fortunate to have many local people that volunteer their time and talent to support the Partnership but they are always looking for volunteers, especially to help with their bigger events like Canal Days and Oktoberfst.
-They talked about how the Partnership collaborates with both the town of Perinton and the Village of Fairport to support local businesses, nonprofits and local events in the community.
-Ciaran gave an update on the new skate park that the town is building
-They talked about the Solar Eclipse Open House event coming up January 6th
-There will be tons of family fun and free activities, artwork on display and vendors
-They provided a quick preview of some of the activities planned for the date of the Solar Eclipse event on April 8th
-Ciaran urged folks to plan ahead for the event on April 8th. He talked about how the town has many parks and public spaces for people to view the eclipse.
-Ciaran talked about how he and other local leaders are trying to plan for and manage the influx of people coming to the Greater Rochester area. They are encouraging people to stay around for a few days to prevent massive traffic jams.
-Ciaran talked about how the town of Perinton is an Ambassador Town for the Solar Eclipse. Employees of the town have undergone training so that they can help prepare for the event and educate the public on the science behind the solar eclipse.
-Nancy talked about the solar eclipse posters that were created by national and local artists and said they would be on display at the Perinton Recreation Center for the month of January
-They said solar eclipse safety glasses will also be available for purchase on January 6th along with other merchandise.
